Project Manager

Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Director, Information Technology
Employment Status: Full time

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the execution of the company and its strategic vision through the timely management and execution of IT projects to ensure Business and IT objectives are defined, documented and met. The Project Manager ensures project resources are managed in an effective and efficient manner dealing with conflict, ambiguity, communication, problem solving and decision making that arises in the project execution. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Proactively monitor all success factors for Business and/or IT Projects assigned by management:
  • Conducts feasibility, risk, regulatory compliance, and ROI analyses for proposed projects
  • Establishes measurement criteria to assess project effectiveness/success
  • Develops a proposed approach to address a business problem. For example, creating a build vs. buy analysis
  • Participate in/lead the development of the Request for Proposals/Request for information process
  • Develops a project plan to deliver the proposed approach, including time and cost estimates
  • Assembles a project team and arranges for any necessary project resources
  • Creates/manages the work breakdown structure (WBS)
  • Makes project assignments, while providing leadership to the project team, managing project scope and ensuring the quality of deliverables
  • Monitors, communicates, and reports project progress against project plan, requirements, budget, quality measures, and business results expected
  • Maintains ongoing communication with customer(s)/stakeholders during the course of the project to ensure that they are up to date on project progress
  • Oversees the design, development and implementation phases of the project, coordinating with the customers, vendors, and other relevant areas of IT
  • Conducts project close activities (e.g., creates closeout plan and report, arranges for post implementation review)
  • Participates in Change Control activities
  • Evaluates performance of project team members
  • Manages vendors in the context of the project
  • Trains, mentors, and develops junior team members

Knowledge and Skills
  • Minimum 5 years Project Management Experience
  • PMP or CAPM Certification, or in progress
  • Knowledge of principles, methods or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources (e.g., work breakdown structures, earned value, critical path analysis)
  • Knowledge of methods and tools used for risk management and mitigation
  • Knowledge of contract guidelines and protocols (e.g., procurement, negotiation, etc)
  • Knowledge of computer systems, operations and applications
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, and tools of data management, conversion and analysis
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures and tools for planning or managing implementations, updates or integrations of systems components
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components
  • Knowledge of developments and new applications of information technology (hardware, software, telecommunications), and emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of systems development life cycle management concepts
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and tools, (surveys, system performance measures) to assess the effectiveness and performance of IT systems
  • Knowledge of IT metrics methods and concepts
  • Knowledge of budgeting and techniques
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools used in managing requirements
  • Skill in preparing and presenting reports, charts, graphs, and in public presentations
  • Skill in mitigating project risks by initiating corrective action
  • Skill in facilitating and leading meetings
  • Skill in planning project teams and evaluating project resources
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships and teambuilding
  • Skill in estimating and planning project timelines, milestones and task schedules
  • Skill in monitoring and controlling project process according to plan
  • Excellence in MS-Office, MS-Project, MS-Visio
