feeding instructions: to attract gold finches place nyjer seed in a tube feeder, which has very small openings. this discourages larger birds from eating the seed and allows the finch to eat one seed at a time. for migrating finches, the feeder should be filled up in early spring when the migrating finches arrive in the early summer. once they begin feeding it is important not to let the feeder be less than 3/4 full. if it does the finches may move on and look for food somewhere else. the consumption may also increase around june when the finches are breeding and there are more babies to feed. nyjer seed can also be fed to caged birds who require a seed high in calories and oil content.
