    1) bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. when the water comes to a boil, add 1 cup (227g) lentil and pea soup mix, reduce to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes. 
    2) drain the lentil and pea soup mix, rinse and set aside.
    3) place the pot back over medium high heat and coat with olive oil.
    4) add your favourite ingredients, soup base and drained lentil and pea soup mix.
    5) reduce heat to medium, cover and cook until all ingredients are tender, about 30-45 minutes.
